Interior Design Trends for 2025: Curated by Kunal Trehan

As we head into 2025, interior design is embracing a mix of comfort, sustainability, and style incorporating natural beauty. This year’s trends are focused on creating spaces that feel intimate, functional, and connected to nature, while proving that luxury and eco-consciousness can beautifully coexist. Whether you're looking to refresh a room or dive into a full redesign, here’s my guide to the top trends for 2025, complete with tips on how to incorporate them into your home.

Luxury Meets Sustainability: A Key Trend for 2025

One of the most exciting trends this year is the fusion of luxury and sustainability. In 2025, high-end design is as much about eco-conscious choices as it is about style. I have always maintained that luxury can be sustainable, and the era of eco-friendly design limited to rustic or minimalist styles is behind us; luxury interiors are now embracing sustainable elements without compromising on sophistication. We all need to play a part in protecting our planet, no matter how big or small our approach may be.

  • Reclaimed, Recycled, and Composite Materials: Expect to see an abundance of reclaimed wood, recycled glass, and composite materials in 2025 interiors. These materials add unique character and a story to each room while reducing environmental impact. Look into terrazzo-effect composites that mimic natural stone, or consider renewable plastic options for a chic yet sustainable finish.
  • Sustainable Fabrics: Organic cotton, linen, and bamboo are increasingly popular in luxury interiors. These natural fabrics are durable, soft, and sustainable, making them ideal for upholstery, curtains, and soft furnishings.

Expert Nugget: An easy update - Switch out synthetic throws or cushions for those made from sustainable materials for a luxurious yet eco-friendly refresh.

  • Handcrafted and Artisanal Pieces: Supporting local artisans and investing in handmade items is another great way to embrace sustainable luxury. From hand-thrown ceramic vases to bespoke furniture, these pieces add personality and charm while reducing your environmental impact. When sourcing items, ask suppliers about their sustainability practices as knowing the story behind a piece is just as important as the aesthetic.

Colours for 2025: Warm Neutrals, Earthy Tones, and Moody Hues

The 2025 colour palette radiates warmth and tranquillity. A shift away from cool tones is bringing interiors to life with shades that make spaces feel inviting and cosy, a direction I’ve advocated for years.

Warm Neutrals: Shades like ivory, bone, earthy browns, beige and warm linen, are big in 2025. These tones create a calming atmosphere and pair beautifully with natural materials like wood and stone.

Expert nugget: Use warm neutrals as the foundation for upholstered furniture, then layer in textures like wool throws or linen cushions for added depth and interest.

  • Earthy and Organic Tones: Nature-inspired colours like olive green and rust will be everywhere. These tones help create a grounded, cosy feel. Incorporate these tones through accessories like rugs, cushions, or wall art for an understated pop of colour.
  • Moody Hues: Deep, rich shades like navy and forest green are perfect for adding drama and sophistication to your home. They work well in living rooms, bedrooms, or dining spaces, creating an intimate feel. To keep it light, contrast these darker tones with bronze and brass accents or lighter tones of wood.

Biophilic Design and Natural Textures

The principle of biophilic design is bringing the outdoors in and it continues to evolve. The goal is to create environments that improve wellbeing by strengthening our connection to nature. This can be achieved through materials, textures, and, of course, plants.

  • Natural Materials: In 2025, expect to see lots of untreated wood, stone, and even mushroom mycelium. These materials bring a sense of calm and natural beauty to any room. Introduce stone into your bathroom or wooden accents in living areas for an organic, peaceful feel.
  • Organic Textures: Textures play a key role in creating a cosy, inviting space. Adding organic textures such as wool helps soften modern interiors and makes them feel more comfortable and lived-in. Just as a wool jumper can envelop you in warmth, comfort, and a sense of security, your home can evoke that same cosy feeling.
  • A few plants will always help liven up a space, boosting aesthetics and air quality and positively connecting to the outside. For a designer look, opt for plants which are architectural in their shape.

Expert nugget:  Add a woven rug or linen cushions to bring warmth and texture to any room instantly.
